You know there is nothing like a good creme brulee. There really isn’t. I got tired of cleaning the house yesterday and noticed that some heavy cream was about to go bad and we had a surplus of eggs laying around in the fridge. Therefore…CREME BRULEE. I really enjoy a good, classic vanilla bean one, while some other flavors are just decadent. My friend Zach made the best tasting pumpkin brulee I have ever had in my life. Anyways, I tried this time to cook them in a egg holder dish. They came out pretty well. Take a look.

day in orange county…
My wife and I took a drive up to Orange County to visit some family of hers. We ended up going to Charlie Palmer’s South Coast Plaza Restaurant for lunch. They have a great Prix Fixe Menu for lunch for only $26 including a starter, entree and dessert. My wife went that route while I went a different. Spending the same amount of money, this is what I got:
Lovely fresh squeezed lemonade. Poppy seed bread sticks, Serrano ham, parmesano reggiano. Crispy Risotto balls, chorizo aioli and chive oil. Cheesecake, strawberries, lime frozen yogurt (awesome).

Burger and Fries
So my wife and I have been trying a few new places since we made the move to San Diego for some pretty good burgers and fries. While we may not like the way we look after we eat them, it is always good to know where one can get a good burger and fries around here.
We first tried a place called O’Brothers Burgers located in the Horton Mall Shopping Plaza downtown San Diego. While we were looking for a quick bite to eat, we found ourselves very happy with the stop. The organic beef burger is delicious to begin with, but when you add bacon, cheese, bbq sauce, and amazing onion rings on top, you really can’t beat it. But they did. The best part of the meal were the shoestring fries, perfectly cooked and tossed with sea salt, fresh black pepper, garlic and herbs. STOP IT! Really happy with this one. only downside, a bit pricey.
We then were intrigued by a newer style burger joint in La Jolla. A place a bit more franchised, called Burger Lounge. Another pricey but tasty burger joint. I enjoyed their basic “tall grass” beef burger while my wife indulged in a delicious quinoa burger, mixed with mushrooms, brown rice, and zucchini. The fries were Belgian style, cooked well. The added bonus here is that they offer shakes and malts for the hungry.
I’d say O’Brothers takes the cake on this one. While it is only their first store, I am excited to see what they do in the future. That’s it for now. Let me know if you know a good burger place, but remember, they better have some good fries too!

Coeur de Cuisine 2.28.10
Sorry for the long delay. I’ll be updating a lot more regularly with restaurant reviews, new foodie things I like, events I’ve done and many other food related things.
This past sunday we took part in a fundraising event called Coeur de Cuisine in Escondido, CA where over five hundred people came to show support for the Escondido Rotary Club. Whether it be local wineries, restaurants, or caterers alike, we all got together and showcased our best dishes for guests to devour. Being the only caterer their was pretty cool but hard to compare. We featured three different dishes that evening:
Petite Beef Filet Mignon with a blue cheese butter and homemade potato crisp
Salmon Tartare with guacamole on a rice cracker topped with sesame seeds and a chive sprig
Medley of fresh vegetables from the garden, some pickled, some dressed, some salted
Check back for some photos from the evening’s event. Thanks again to Tango Restaurant and Kendall Jackson Winery for putting up with us that evening.
